On Finally Using My Blog

So, I set up this blog about 5 years ago, and had a million wonderful ideas about what I would blog about. My thinking at the time was that I could blog about all sorts of social justice issues, oppressed peoples ... blah, blah, blah. That's no fun, right? So today, inspired by my very very very good friend Flaca (the blog world knows her as Cristina Dos Santos--the not so crunchy momma who writes [incredible] short stories on Once Upon a Time I decided that I'm going to begin blogging by joining in the 2011 Debut Author Challenge and blog about what I'm reading; perhaps someone will even stumble across my posts and decide that something I've read is interesting and want to read it too!! Thanks, again, to Flaca, I'm really digging this young adult sci-fi fantasy genre these days, so I'm gonna do it!!

So, the Debut Author Challenge is to read at least one young adult or middle grade book per month that is the first book being published by a new author--hence the title Debut Author Challenge. Further, you must publish reviews of what you're reading in a public space so that others can read them. This is going to be tough for me because I am too busy most days to even check my email, so I'm going to have to budget time for this and stick with it amongst the million other things I do on a daily basis. Wish me luck!!

I am going to begin my quest with Warped, by Maurissa Guibord. Why, you might ask? Well, the sole reason for this choice is that its being released on my birthday, January 11th; that's all. Oh, and because I like the cover.

I, like my very very good friend Flaca, do judge a book by its cover; so, if I hadn't found the cover appealing when I googled the book, I would have absolutely chosen something else as there are others being released on my birthday. But, I liked it so I looked no further; its definitely going to be my January read, and here are some others I'm going to add to my list:

For February its either going to be Darkness Becomes Her by Kelly Keaton--I read a review online and it seems like its going to be very, very interesting--or Exposed, by Kimberly Marcus because the review reminds me a bit of Nineteen Minutes, by Jodi Picoult, one of my favorite books. Or perhaps I'll just read both since one is being released at the beginning of the month and one at the end. We'll see what there is time for as I usually have 2-3 or more books going at once--I think I have a touch of A.D.D., and can't do one thing if I'm not doing 5 other things along with it.

I haven't been able to read any of the reviews for March new releases forward as of yet, but check back, cause I'll have them up soon!!

Also, please check out the Story Siren to sign up for this challenge if you're interested in the challenge, or even if you're just looking for a good read--she has tons of great suggestions. You can find her here:

And don't think that because books are classified for Young Adults that they're not good; in fact, they're incredibly good, and I can't wait to read more!!
